{"id":171,"date":"2011-04-18T06:58:05","date_gmt":"2011-04-18T06:58:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org\/blog\/?p=171"},"modified":"2019-03-28T01:02:42","modified_gmt":"2019-03-28T01:02:42","slug":"womens-world-surfing-champ-boycotts-china","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org\/blog\/womens-world-surfing-champ-boycotts-china\/","title":{"rendered":"Women&#8217;s World Surfing Champ Boycotts China"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/cori_hero.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a>Women\u2019s Rights Without Frontiers applauds Cori Schumacher, the reigning Women\u2019s World Longboard Surfing Champion.\u00a0 Schumacher is boycotting the 2011 World Tour on moral grounds, because one of the events will be held in China. \u00a0Citing a hearing before the United States Congress Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, Schumacher wrote the following to the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP):<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have deep political and personal reservations with being a part of any sort of benefit to a country that actively engages in human rights violations, specifically those in violation of women. The ASP\u2019s reconnaissance of possible sites in China for events last year and its first ASP event in China followed an important US congressional hearing on China\u2019s \u201cOne Child Policy,\u201d a policy sanctioned by the Chinese government that is implicated in gendercide, sexual slavery, forced sterilization and forced abortions.
