{"id":1848,"date":"2014-10-24T01:06:53","date_gmt":"2014-10-24T01:06:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org\/blog\/?p=1848"},"modified":"2019-03-28T02:43:22","modified_gmt":"2019-03-28T02:43:22","slug":"chinas-proposed-two-child-policy-will-not-end-forced-abortion-or-gendercide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org\/blog\/chinas-proposed-two-child-policy-will-not-end-forced-abortion-or-gendercide\/","title":{"rendered":"China&#8217;s proposed two child policy will not end forced abortion or gendercide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1414091512462_24851\" class=\"yiv2968187614MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 11pt;\">According to a report in Bloomberg Businessweek, Cai Fang, vice director of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, has stated:\u00a0 \u201cWe will fully relax the policy\u201d in two years, allowing all couples to have a second child.\u00a0 The reason:\u00a0 China\u2019s shrinking labor pool will cause the potential growth rate to fall an average of 6.2 percent annually from 2016 to 2020.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1414091512462_24847\" class=\"yiv2968187614MsoNormal\">Reggie Littlejohn, President of Women\u2019s Rights Without Frontiers, has responded: \u00a0\u201cThe Chinese Communist Party is finally waking up to the fact that, by instituting the brutal One Child Policy for economic reasons 34 year ago, it unwittingly signed its own economic death warrant.\u00a0 China will grow old before it grows rich.\u00a0 China\u2019s population problem is not that it has too many people, but that it has too few young people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1414091512462_24872\" class=\"yiv2968187614MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 11pt;\">\u201cTo say that China \u2018will fully relax the policy\u2019 is extremely misleading,\u201d Littlejohn continued.\u00a0 \u201cAllowing all couples to have a second child does not constitute a \u2018full relaxation\u2019 of the One-Child Policy. The problem with the One Child Policy is not the number of children \u2018allowed.\u2019\u00a0 Rather, it is the fact that the CCP is telling women how many children they can have and then enforcing that limit through forced abortion, forced sterilization and infanticide.<b id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1414091512462_24873\"> <\/b>\u00a0Even if all couples were allowed two children, there is no guarantee that the CCP will cease their appalling methods of enforcement.\u00a0 Women will still need a birth permit to have their first and second child.\u00a0 Women who get pregnant without permission will still be dragged out of their homes, strapped down to tables and forced to abort babies that they want, even up to the ninth month of pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_1_1414091512462_24886\" class=\"yiv2968187614MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-bottom: 11pt;\">\u201cFurthermore, instituting a two-child policy will not end gendercide.\u00a0 Indeed, areas in which two children currently are allowed are especially vulnerable to gendercide, the sex-selective abortion of females.\u00a0 According to the 2009 British Medical Journal study of 2005 national census data, in nine provinces, for \u2018second order births\u2019 where the first child is a girl, 160 boys were born for every 100 girls. In two provinces, Jiangsu and Anhui, for the second child, there were 190 boys for every hundred girls born. This study stated, \u2018Sex selective abortion accounts for almost all the excess males.\u2019\u00a0 Because of this gendercide, there are an estimated 37 million Chinese men who will never marry because their future wives were terminated before they were born.
