{"id":2405,"date":"2016-12-12T00:38:59","date_gmt":"2016-12-12T00:38:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org\/blog\/?p=2405"},"modified":"2016-12-12T00:38:59","modified_gmt":"2016-12-12T00:38:59","slug":"help-us-save-baby-girls-in-china-like-shu-ting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org\/blog\/help-us-save-baby-girls-in-china-like-shu-ting\/","title":{"rendered":"Help us save baby girls in China, like Shu Ting!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Friend,<\/p>\n<p>Thank you for your generous support of our efforts to stop forced abortion and gendercide in China!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2407\" style=\"width: 210px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2407\" class=\"wp-image-2407\" src=\"http:\/\/www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Screen-Shot-2016-12-10-at-8.45.03-PM.png\" alt=\"Shu Ting as an infant\" width=\"200\" height=\"354\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2407\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Shu Ting as an infant<\/p><\/div>\n<p>A huge highlight of 2016 is that our network in China has grown tremendously and because of your support, we have now saved hundreds of baby girls from sex-selective abortion or abandonment!Girls like &#8220;Shu Ting,\u201d whose mother courageously resisted the pressure of both government forced abortion and gendercide.<\/p>\n<p>Shu Ting\u2019s mother did not have a birth permit, so her pregnancy was illegal.\u00a0 Her mother hid from the family planning police. \u00a0If she were caught, she would have to pay a huge fine or face forced abortion.<\/p>\n<p>Even after Shu Ting was born, her mother still faced pressure to give away her baby girl. Shu Ting\u2019s family is a poor farming family, and her mother did not know how she could feed her.<\/p>\n<p>When Women\u2019s Rights Without Frontiers learned about Shu Ting, our undercover fieldworker went to her mother with a strong message of hope.\u00a0 We told her that girls are just as precious as boys, and encouraged Shu Ting\u2019s mother not to abort her or give her away.\u00a0 Through our \u201cSave a Girl\u201d campaign, we offered her monthly stipends for a year, to empower her to give life to Shu Ting and care for her.<\/p>\n<p>After Shu Ting was born, her mother realized how intensely she loved her daughter and could not imagine giving her away.\u00a0 Shu Ting is now a healthy and happy toddler.<\/p>\n<p>It is an honor to support brave women like Shu Ting\u2019s mother, who was able to resist the Family Planning Police.\u00a0 Women like this deserve our help, and so do their precious daughters.\u00a0 Every baby girl in China deserves to be saved, like Shu Ting!\u00a0 <strong><em>Please help us continue to be a voice for the voiceless!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2406\" style=\"width: 136px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2406\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2406\" src=\"http:\/\/www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Screen-Shot-2016-12-10-at-8.33.02-PM.png\" alt=\"Shu Ting One Year Later\" width=\"126\" height=\"272\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2406\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Shu Ting One Year Later<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In addition to saving lives in China, we\u2019ve had a world-wide impact, leading an international movement to end coercive population control in China.\u00a0 Highlights this year included an interview on ABC News and being a Keynote Speaker at a conference at my <em>alma mater<\/em>, Yale.\u00a0 We have worked hard to earn the credibility that these opportunities demonstrate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you have not done so yet this year, won\u2019t you please donate today,<\/strong> to help us continue and expand our life-saving work in China, as well as our effective advocacy campaign giving voice to the voiceless?<\/p>\n<p>Thank you, on behalf of the women and babies of China.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Reggie Littlejohn, President<\/p>\n<p>Women\u2019s Rights Without Frontiers<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dear Friend, Thank you for your generous support of our efforts to stop forced abortion and gendercide in China!
