{"id":2533,"date":"2017-04-15T23:03:21","date_gmt":"2017-04-15T23:03:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org\/blog\/?p=2533"},"modified":"2017-04-15T23:14:48","modified_gmt":"2017-04-15T23:14:48","slug":"celebrate-new-life-by-saving-a-girl-in-china","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org\/blog\/celebrate-new-life-by-saving-a-girl-in-china\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrate New Life By Helping Save Girls in China"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_2534\" style=\"width: 222px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2534\" class=\"wp-image-2534 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Picture1-212x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"212\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Picture1-212x300.png 212w, https:\/\/www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Picture1.png 465w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 212px) 100vw, 212px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2534\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Huiqing&#8217;s&#8221; mother resisted forced abortion and is able to keep her daughter with WRWF&#8217;s help<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This is \u201cHuiqing,\u201d a one month old baby girl, born in a remote village in China.\u00a0 Who wouldn\u2019t love this adorable baby?\u00a0 We hope she will never know the firestorm of controversy that her birth brought to her family \u2013 all because she was conceived without a \u201cBirth Permit\u201d &#8212; and then born, not a boy, but a girl.<\/p>\n<p>You see, Huiqing was conceived under China\u2019s brutal One Child Policy.\u00a0 She has an older brother, so her family was not allowed to have another child.\u00a0 Her parents did not have a \u201cbirth permit\u201d for her.\u00a0 She was an \u201cillegal child,\u201d subject to forced abortion.\u00a0 Her parents thought she was a boy, and so bribed the village leader not to report their illegal pregnancy to the Family Planning Police.<\/p>\n<p>Then, China announced its new \u201cTwo Child Policy,\u201d so Huiqing\u2019s parents thought they were safe.\u00a0 But in many areas, children conceived under the One Child Policy were not grandfathered in under the Two Child Policy.\u00a0 They remain illegal!<\/p>\n<p>After Huiqing was born, out of the blue, Family Planning Police arrived at the home of her parents and ordered her mother to be sterilized.\u00a0 Under the Two Child Policy, women are routinely sterilized after their second child \u2013 to prevent them from having a third child.\u00a0 These forced sterilizations are not carried out by highly trained gynecological surgeons.\u00a0 People with very little training often butcher women in the remote villages.<\/p>\n<p>Huiqing&#8217;s father wanted another son.\u00a0 If Huiqing&#8217;s mother were sterilized, this would be impossible. \u00a0So Huiquing\u2019s father began to pressure her mother to \u201cgive her away\u201d to avoid the sterilization.\u00a0 This sometimes means finding a childless couple to adopt her.\u00a0 It sometimes means leaving her in a field to die.<\/p>\n<p>Huiqing\u2019s brave mother would not accept the pressure from her husband or the Chinese government.\u00a0 She wanted desperately to keep her daughter, who brought her much happiness.\u00a0 But she did not know what to do or where to turn.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, a Women\u2019s Rights Without Frontiers\u2019 (WRWF) undercover fieldworker found Huiqing\u2019s mother before it was too late.\u00a0 Our fieldworker told her that we are helping mothers keep their girls because girls are just as good as boys.\u00a0 <strong>Our fieldworker offered Huiqing\u2019s mother a monthly stipend for a year to empower her to keep her daughter.<\/strong>\u00a0 With the help of this stipend, Huiqing\u2019s mother is defying the pressure from the Chinese government and her husband and is raising Huiqing on her own. \u00a0She told our fieldworker that if WRWF can help her, she will survive on her own.\u00a0 Nothing is more important to her than to stay with her baby daughter.<\/p>\n<p>It is such an honor to help brave women like Huiqing\u2019s mother!\u00a0 And you have a unique opportunity to help as well!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Will you help us save women and girls in China?
