“In the process of eradicating extremism, the minds of Uygur\u00a0[sic]\u00a0women were emancipated . . . making them no long\u00a0[sic]\u00a0baby-making machines.”<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This quote is taken from an\u00a0article<\/a>\u00a0recently appearing in the Chinese Communist Party-owned\u00a0China Daily,\u00a0<\/em>claiming that the \u201ceradication of extremism\u201d has helped Uyghur women \u201cto become healthy, confident and independent.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0In fact, this article seeks to justify China\u2019s horrific human rights abuses against Uyghur women.\u00a0\u00a0U.S. officials and China critics have\u00a0slammed<\/a>\u00a0the article.\u00a0\u00a0Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, for example, promptly responded in a\u00a0tweet,<\/a>\u201cUyghur women are not \u2018emancipated\u2019 by forced abortions and sterilizations.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\u00a0China Daily\u00a0<\/em>article states that the birthrate among Uyghurs in Xinjiang has decreased \u201cfrom the eradication of religious extremism.\u201d\u00a0What\u2019s missing from the article is that, according to an\u00a0AP Report,<\/a>\u00a0CCP-backed scholars have identified \u201cas a key obstacle [to the CCP\u2019s goals in Xinjiang] the religious belief that \u2018the fetus is a gift from God.\u2019\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0This belief is identified as \u201creligious extremism.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0By that definition, believers in most major world religions, including Christianity, would be identified by the CCP as \u201creligious extremists.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saying that the minds of Uyghur women have been \u201cemancipated\u201d from this \u201cextremism,\u201d \u201cmaking them no longer baby-making machines,\u201d shows the Chinese Communist Party\u2019s disparaging view of religious faith, its patronizing view of women, its racism against Uyghurs, and its complete disrespect for the value of human life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\u00a0China Daily\u00a0<\/em>article, citing a \u201creport,\u201d claims \u201cThe changes were not caused by ‘forced sterilization’ of the Uygur\u00a0[sic]\u00a0<\/em>population, as repeatedly claimed by some Western scholars and politicians.’\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This claim is pure propaganda.\u00a0\u00a0It demonstrates the way in which the CCP\u2019s media organs simply promote any narrative they want the world to believe, without any connection to reality.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0In fact, according to credible sources — including the\u00a0Associated Press<\/a>, researcher\u00a0Adrian Zenz<\/a>, and\u00a0Radio Free Asia<\/a>, — substantial evidence exists that Uyghur women are being heavily persecuted through\u00a0forced abortion, forced sterilization<\/a>, and even infanticide.\u00a0\u00a0These practices constitute crimes against humanity.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Trump administration has taken a leading role worldwide in forcefully condemning the CCP\u2019s atrocities against the Uyghurs, a Muslim minority group in Xinjiang Province, also known as East Turkistan. \u00a0 The Uyghur Human Rights Policy Act received strong, bicameral and bipartisan support.\u00a0 We call upon the Biden administration strongly to condemn human rights atrocities perpetrated by the CCP in Xinjiang, to sanction Chinese officials responsible for these atrocities under the Global Magnitsky Act, and to issue a genocide determination.\u00a0\u00a0We further call upon them not to renew funding for the UNFPA, absent complete transparency and proof that the UNFPA is not collaborating with the CCP\u2019s egregious population control program.\u00a0\u00a0We also believe that China should not be honored to host the Winter Olympics in Beijing in 2022.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
