{"id":546,"date":"2012-03-09T14:09:14","date_gmt":"2012-03-09T14:09:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org\/blog\/?p=546"},"modified":"2019-03-28T01:12:09","modified_gmt":"2019-03-28T01:12:09","slug":"international-womens-day-a-travesty-for-chinese-women-and-blind-forced-abortion-opponent-chen-guangcheng","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org\/blog\/international-womens-day-a-travesty-for-chinese-women-and-blind-forced-abortion-opponent-chen-guangcheng\/","title":{"rendered":"International Women\u2019s Day a Travesty for Chinese Women and Blind Forced Abortion Opponent Chen Guangcheng"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This week women in many nations celebrate great advances in women\u2019s rights.\u00a0 Women in other nations have seen a decline.\u00a0 Women\u2019s Rights Without Frontiers is dedicated to the plight of more than half a billion Chinese women who live under the iron fist of the One Child Policy.\u00a0 They have had perhaps their most fundamental right stripped away:\u00a0 the right to bear children.\u00a0 And let us not forget the estimated 100 million missing women who are victims of \u201cgendercide,\u201d the sex-selective abortion of baby girls.<\/p>\n<p>WRWF President Reggie Littlejohn stated, \u201cThe coercive enforcement of China\u2019s One Child Policy causes more violence against women and girls than any other official policy on earth.\u00a0 It is the greatest women\u2019s rights issue in the world today.\u00a0 It does not matter whether you are pro-life or pro-choice on this issue.\u00a0 No one supports forced abortion, because it is not a choice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Watch a 4-minute video, \u201cStop Forced Abortion.\u201d<a href=\"http:\/\/www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org\/?nav=stop-forced-abortion\"> http:\/\/www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org\/?nav=stop-forced-abortion<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sign a petition to stop forced abortion:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org\/index.php?nav=sign_our_petition\">http:\/\/www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org\/index.php?nav=sign_our_petition<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Not only are the women themselves persecuted, but those who stand up for them are persecuted as well.\u00a0 Blind activist Chen Guangcheng is a hero in China, because he has had the courage to stand up against the hated One Child Policy.\u00a0 Chen exposed the systematic and widespread use of forced abortions and sterilizations in Linyi City in 2005.\u00a0 For this he was jailed for four years and three months, tortured, and denied medical treatment.\u00a0 Last year a video featuring Chen Guangcheng was leaked to the West.\u00a0 Chen and his wife, Yuan Weijing, were \u201cbeaten senseless\u201d in retaliation for the release of the video.\u00a0 They were denied medical treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Last month WRWF learned that Chen Guangcheng is seriously ill.\u00a0 According to a CHRD report, Chen was seen to take a few steps in the courtyard.\u00a0 \u201cHe looked pale and moved unsteadily. Only a few steps out of the door he fainted and fell to the ground.\u201d WRWF calls for the immediate, unconditional release from house arrest of Chen Guangcheng and his family, and for urgent medical treatment.<\/p>\n<p>Littlejohn stated, \u201cChen sacrificed everything to tell the world the brutal truth about forced abortion in China. He is a warrior for women\u2019s rights.
