Dear Friend,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The WHO\u2019s World Health Assembly is meeting this week — May 18-23.\u00a0 Ahead of this annual decision-making meeting, the European Parliament sponsored a major event: \u201cWHO Unmasked.\u201d\u00a0 I was humbled to be invited to deliver an Address, which I entitled, \u201cLab Leaks and Bioterrorist Attacks:\u00a0 The Dangers of PABS and Gain of Function.\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0I described how the Pathogen Access and Benefit Sharing (PABS) System will greatly increase the chances of lab leaks and bioterrorist attacks, especially since it does not contain any specific prohibition against dangerous gain-of-function research.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the vote on the PABS system will not take place as scheduled during the World Health Assembly this week, member states are continuing to negotiate on it and it can be voted upon at any time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
