{"id":661,"date":"2012-06-11T16:51:20","date_gmt":"2012-06-11T16:51:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org\/blog\/?p=661"},"modified":"2012-06-11T16:51:20","modified_gmt":"2012-06-11T16:51:20","slug":"china-five-month-pregnant-woman-still-in-danger-of-forced-abortion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org\/blog\/china-five-month-pregnant-woman-still-in-danger-of-forced-abortion\/","title":{"rendered":"China:  Five Month Pregnant Woman Still in Danger of Forced Abortion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Changsha, Hunan Province, China.\u00a0 On the night of June 6, 2012, Women\u2019s Rights Without Frontiers received an emergency email about a Chinese woman in danger of forced abortion.<\/p>\n<p>At least a dozen family planning officials broke into the home of Cao Ruyi, five months pregnant with her second child, and dragged her to the hospital for a forced abortion.\u00a0 Her husband, Li Fu, was beaten on the way to the hospital and told that if he and his wife did not consent to a \u201cvoluntary\u201d abortion, his wife would be forced to abort.\u00a0 Over the weekend, the hospital released Cao Ruyi upon payment of a fine of US $1500 \u201csocial compensation fee.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 Family Planning Officials still demand an additional payment of US $25,000 for her to continue her pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p>Women\u2019s Rights Without Frontiers president Reggie Littlejohn stated,\u00a0 \u201cThe plight of Mrs. Cao and her husband vividly demonstrates the brutality of China\u2019s One Child Policy.\u00a0 The Chinese Communist Party has reported 13 million abortions a year.\u00a0 How many millions of Chinese women will be forced to abort their babies this year?\u00a0 We strongly condemn forced abortion and urge the international community to take a stand against this heinous crime against humanity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Littlejohn continued, \u201cThe suffering of this couple reveals several truths about the One Child Policy.\u00a0 Despite official denials, China still enforces its One Child Policy through late term forced abortion.\u00a0 These forced abortions occur in major cities, such as Changsha, not just in the countryside.\u00a0 Also, officials will beat and detain \u2018illegally pregnant\u2019 couples to extract consent to a \u201cvoluntary\u201d abortion.\u00a0 Finally we see the enormity of the fines, which can reach ten times a person\u2019s annual salary.\u00a0 These fines are impossible for most couples to pay.\u00a0 They then may become victims of forced abortion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Congressman Chris Smith issued a statement urging that Cao Ruyi be allowed to continue her pregnancy.\u00a0 Bob Fu, president of China Aid, communicated with the couple over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWRWF is relieved that Mrs. Cao was released from the hospital.\u00a0 But if the couple is unable to pay this heavy additional fine, what will happen to them?\u00a0 Unless international pressure is applied, Mrs. Cao will likely be forcibly aborted.\u00a0 They are not out of danger.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sign a petition to end forced abortion here.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org\/index.php?nav=sign_our_petition\">http:\/\/www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org\/index.php?nav=sign_our_petition<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Watch a video about forced abortion in China here.<br \/>\nStop Forced Abortion \u2013 China\u2019s War on Women!
