{"id":798,"date":"2012-10-11T07:15:41","date_gmt":"2012-10-11T07:15:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org\/blog\/?p=798"},"modified":"2021-02-18T21:38:48","modified_gmt":"2021-02-18T21:38:48","slug":"china-save-a-girl-campaign-launched-on-first-international-day-of-the-girl-child","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org\/blog\/china-save-a-girl-campaign-launched-on-first-international-day-of-the-girl-child\/","title":{"rendered":"China: \u201cSave a Girl\u201d Campaign Launched on First International Day of the Girl Child"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA.\u00a0 October 11 marks the first International Day of the Girl Child, as recognized by the UN General Assembly.\u00a0 To coincide with this event, Women\u2019s Rights Without Frontiers is launching its \u201cSave a Girl\u201d campaign to end gendercide in China.<\/p>\n<p>Experts estimate that between 160 and 200 million women are missing in the world today because of the sex-selective abortion of baby girls.\u00a0 Because of this gendercide, there are now 37 million more men living in China than women, which gender imbalance is driving human trafficking and sexual slavery not only in China but in many of the surrounding nations as well.<\/p>\n<p>In response, Women\u2019s Rights Without Frontiers has launched its \u201cSave a Girl\u201d campaign to end gendercide.\u00a0 According to WRWF President Reggie Littlejohn, \u201cThis campaign is a way that people can directly help save lives in China.\u201d\u00a0 The campaign is designed to:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Combat Gendercide. <\/strong>WRWF is giving monthly stipends for a year to mothers who are at risk of aborting or abandoning their baby girls.\u00a0 This money helps the mother resist pressure to abort or abandon their baby girls.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fight Forced Abortion: <\/strong> WRWF gives monthly stipends to help support women who are pregnant without a birth permit and are hiding or running to escape forced abortions.<\/p>\n<p>Littlejohn stated, \u201cWe are defeating gendercide and forced abortion, one baby at a time.\u00a0 It\u2019s astonishing how little money it takes to save a life.\u00a0 For example, one of our baby girls was born to poor farmers.\u00a0 Her father wanted a son and was pressuring his wife to leave the baby out in the field to die.\u00a0 A WRWF Field Worker called the mother, who said that if we would help her, she would keep the girl.\u00a0 WRWF began giving her a small monthly stipend.\u00a0 Her daughter has become an adorable girl and is now greatly loved by both her parents.\u00a0 Her mother told WRWF: \u2018You saved my daughter\u2019s life.\u00a0 Thanks to you and your organization.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The campaign also gives stipends to women who are fleeing forced abortions.<\/p>\n<p>Find out more about the Save a Girl Campaign here:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org\/index.php?nav=end-gendercide-and-forced-abortion\">http:\/\/womensrightswithoutfrontiers.org\/index.php?nav=end-gendercide-and-forced-abortion<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Read the Resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly &#8211;
