Dear Friend,
As you may know, an Amendent to the Big Beautiful Bill proposed a 10-year moratorium on the state regulation of AI – a violation of states’ rights and a recipe for disaster. The states have the right and the duty to protect their citizens from runaway AI. Due to pushback – including ours – the Senate is now considering a compromise amendment (proposed by Senators Cruz and Blackburn) that would enact a 5-year moratorium, with certain carveouts.
A five-year moratorium on state regulation of AI will not resolve any of the issues posed by a 10-year moratorium. This amendment will likely be voted upon in the next day or two.
Please watch this powerful interview discussing the reasons the states need to retain their power to regulate AI. This is a crucial states rights issue.
Also, please TAKE ACTION HERE to let your representatives know that the Cruz/Blackburn amendment will not resolve the problems of the moratorium.
BREAKING NEWS – This situation is extremely fluid, as the Senate’s Vote-o-Rama on Amendments has begun. Just as we were about to send out this newsletter, we learned that Senator Blackburn has pulled her support for the compromise she reached with Senator Cruz. According to a report by Politico, she stated, ““While I appreciate Chairman Cruz’s efforts to find acceptable language that allows states to protect their citizens from the abuses of AI, the current language is not acceptable to those who need these protections the most.”
Our message is having an impact!!
We don’t know whether Senator Cruz is still advancing the Cruz/Blackburn compromise, without Senator Blackburn’s support. Right now, everything is up in the air, which means that we have a chance for a decisive victory, if we act now. We still need to take action to get the moratorium expunged completely from the Big Beautiful Bill. I believe the Senate may be discussing it at this very moment!
