Student leaders at a Georgetown University conference have selected Women’s Rights Without Frontiers president Reggie Littlejohn as keynote speaker based on her work against forced abortion in China – a mission they hailed as unifying the divide between left and right.
Littlejohn is scheduled to give the main address for the 17th Annual Cardinal O’Connor Conference on Life in Washington, D.C. on January 28.
“We chose Reggie Littlejohn to keynote this Conference because we believe her international, human rights mission to address China’s Two-Child Policy transcends the entrenched and divisive rhetoric often used when life and death issues are addressed in politics on the national stage,” stated Conference Co-Director Jeannette Joly. “Through her own powerful political engagement, Reggie Littlejohn has successfully received recognition for Women’s Rights Without Frontiers from both the left and right sides of the aisle. Undoubtedly, these unifying efforts to save women from forced abortion and baby girls from sex-selective abortion will move, inspire, and motivate the attendees of the 2017 Conference.”
Named after Georgetown alumnus John Cardinal O’Connor of New York, the Conference promotes discourse on the sanctity of human life and is the largest conference of its kind in the United States.
Joly praised Littlejohn’s “impressive experience” defending human rights in China, and said her message is especially important following China’s switch this year from the infamous One Child Policy to a “Two Child Policy.” Littlejohn has affirmed in Congressional testimony that the new policy hasn’t stopped China’s system of coercive population control, including forced abortions and involuntary sterilizations.
“I am honored to have been selected as keynote speaker at Georgetown’s Cardinal O’Connor Conference,” said WRWF president Reggie Littlejohn. “I am grateful that the conference has the vision to embrace international issues and attempt to bridge the ideological divide between pro-life and pro-choice by promoting discourse about coercive population control in China.
“Meanwhile, under extreme cultural pressure, women in China abort or abandon their baby girls,” Littlejohn continued. “Is gendercide truly a choice, or is there a connection between gendercide and forced abortion? WRWF is offering practical assistance to mothers in China and has saved 200 baby girls from sex-selective abortion or abandonment through our ‘Save a Girl’ campaign.
